Grandma's Funeral

We went to my Grandma's funeral this week. It was really good to see all of my family. My grandparents had 8 kids, 48 grand kids, 88 great grand kids, and 6 great-great grand kids. Plus there were their brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews, etc. So it was HUGE! The Bishop even commented during the funeral that the Ward Relief Society was put in about a month ago, and this is their first funeral. So if they can get through this one, everything else will be a breeze for them! :)
Thursday afternoon was the viewing. Here are Dad and Maggie at the viewing.
This is my grandpa. He was so cute. It was sad to see him so sad that his sweetheart was gone, but he was just cute at the same time.
The funeral was Friday afternoon. Some of the highlights for me were learning that Grandma LOVED to go places. She had a little dog that would go and jump in the car with people when they left, and everyone always joked that "Mom" was the same way. If she heard that someone was going on a trip she would say "Well I'd like to go." and hop in with them. She loved to travel and went all over. I never knew that about her.
She was a school teacher, and loved kids. She considered herself to be failing if one of her students was failing. She taught 1st grade. Someone shared that when trick or treat-ers came to the door she would have to find out if any of them were her students, or ever had been her students. Another story was from my cousin Diana, who told that she was sitting in Grandma's kitchen with her back to the wall. She raised her hand and said "Teacher!" and Grandma said "Yes?" and they carried on the conversation from there. It was natural for Diana, and it was natural for Grandma, but everyone else in the room thought it was strange and funny.
This is Shawn and Tessa at the Graveside Service.
Our Family at my brother's grave. He is also buried in Richfield.
This is Grandpa. He was so cute. He wouldn't leave Grandma until she was in the ground. He just sat there and held his rose. They let the kids take roses from the casket bouquet. There were also ribbons that said "Mother" and "Sweetheart." They gave Grandpa the rose attached to the "sweetheart" ribbon. He held it the whole time. He was very sad to be without his wife of 66 years, but he was also happy to see his family, and know that his wife was happy, and reunited with her parents, and siblings, etc.
This is us watching the casket being lowered.
At the dinner afterwards, we were done eating and just visiting with family. My cousin came up to me and said "Necha, is this little girl eating cake yours?" I looked and there was a crowd of people taking pictures of Maggie. She had found a whole table of cake just for her! :) She was sampling every piece that she could reach. I think she had eaten 3-4 pieces before someone came to get me. I hid behind my aunt and took pictures, then I took her to get cleaned up. :) Funny Girl!

I am so sorry for your loss! The pictures of your grandpa really touched my heart! I feel sad for him! 66 years is a long time! Knowing the plan of salvation and happiness is so wonderful isn't it? Thanks for sharing! :)
